About a month ago I said I was going all in on Instagram. For the last few months I’ve really dived into Insta learning the ins and outs of how to use it. I don’t want to say I’ve plateaued, but right now I feel like it’s time to add to the social media knowledge bank. In my last post I mentioned that this next months focus is going to be on Pinterest (if you missed it you can go back here). Here are 3 reasons why I chose to learn about this particular platform for the next month…
- It’s the platform I know least about: In our “About Page” (which needs a little update btw…coming soon) I mention that the goal is to “build a social media agency.” In other words run social media for small businesses. I’ve been able to learn and build on platforms like Instagram and Twitter. Facebook has been a little harder, but I’ve learned a lot about it. I use LinkedIn and Snapchat on a personal level so know quite a bit about those platforms, but I don’t know a thing about Pinterest. Obviously, in order to run social media for other businesses I need to know about each platform. At this point if a company came to me and said they need some help with Pinterest, I wouldn’t even know where or how to start.
- It’s great for bloggers: As far as building this blog (or most any blog for that matter), Pinterest is great. A lot of bloggers get major traffic from it. It’s a good platform for bloggers because from what I understand it’s easy to share content aaaaand your “Pins” can get re-pinned over and over giving you a lot of exposure and traffic. It’s the life and blood for some bloggers, so I thought I should give it a go as well.
- Exposure: Lastly for the exposure. I have at least a small presence on each major platform, but zero on Pinterest. Even the people who follow me probably have forgotten I even exist on it. So to build credibility and use another platform to get my stuff out there, Pinterest will hopefully help with that.
Conclusion: I’m not stopping Instagram completely, I will probably just be posting less and with less consistency at least until I learn this Pinterest stuff. It’ll be a blast learning about Pinterest, going all in for the next month is going to help with my social media knowledge as well as building more on the foundation for this blog.
Question: What tips or strategies would you give a new Pinterest user?!?
